Eat The City – Our Original Manchester Food Tour
Great food, indepenent stops and great stories
The Tour
Great food, independent stops and stories that help make sense of Manchester.
Come hungry. We’ll take you to some of our favourite independent places, choose the dishes we think you should try, and tell you the stories behind what you’re eating.
From Manchester’s industrial past to migration, trade and the people who have shaped the city, this is a food tour with plenty to get your teeth into.
Eat your way around Manchester
Eat the City is our original Manchester food tour — a relaxed afternoon of great food, independent businesses and the stories behind them.
We’ve chosen the stops, sorted the route and taken care of the ordering, so you can simply turn up hungry and enjoy the city.
Along the way you’ll try a generous range of food, meet some of the people behind the places we visit, and hear the stories that connect what’s on your plate to Manchester itself.
Even if you know the city well, there’s a good chance you’ll eat something you’ve never tried before, hear a story you haven’t come across, or notice something you’ve walked past a hundred times.
The story of Manchester through food
Food is one of the best ways to understand a city.
Manchester’s food has been shaped by industry, immigration, trade, invention and the communities that have made the city their home.
So while you’ll eat very well, this isn’t just a trail of good places to eat.
We use the food to tell a bigger story — why certain dishes arrived here, how neighbourhoods changed, what people ate, and how Manchester became the city it is today.
What to expect
A small-group walking food tour through central Manchester, stopping at a carefully chosen mix of independent businesses.
There’s plenty to eat, so come hungry.
You don’t need to plan where to go, what to order or how to fit it all together. That’s our job.
You just need to turn up, eat, listen, ask questions and enjoy the afternoon.
